Togean is a formation of islands located in the middle of Gulf Tomini, Sulawesi Island, Indonesia. The islands have beautiful natural environment as well as harmonious ecosystems with high biodiversity, especially under the water. This is because the islands are located right in the Coral Triangle area.

Due to its beauty, Togean Islands became a popular tourism destination for both domestic and international tourists. Most of them visit this place for marine adventure such as snorkeling, diving, and canoeing. To preserve the exotic natural condition of the area, the government has made Togean Islands to be a national park. It means the location protected by the law.

Getting There

It is not easy to reach Togean Islands. There are several options of route that you can try:

  • Via Gorontalo
    • Get a flight from Jakarta to Gorontalo. The trip will take two hours.
    • Get a public boat in Gorontalo port that goes to Togean Islands. Direct ship is available twice a week. The trip will take about 12 hours.
    • If you fail to get a direct ship, get a ship to Wakai and continue by using small boat to Togean. From Wakai to Togean, it will take only 15 minutes.
  • Via Palu
    • Get a flight from Jakarta City to Palu. The trip will take two hours.
    • From Palu, continue to Ampana by using taxi, public bus, or travel car. This trip will take 10 hours.
    • From Ampana, get a public boat to Wakai. This trip will take 5 hours.
    • From Wakai, continue to Togean by using small boats.
  • Via Makassar
    • Get a flight from Jakarta to Makassar. The trip will take two hours.
    • Get another flight from Makassar to Poso by using smaller plane. The trip will take about 80 minutes.
    • From Poso, continue to Ampana by using taxi, public bus, or travel car. This trip will take 5 hours.
    • From Ampana, get a public boat to Wakai. This trip will take 5 hours.
    • From Wakai, continue to Togean by using small boats.

From all the routes, it is more convenient to go via Gorontalo as you don’t need to change transportation as many as the other routes. But this route requires you to be on a boat for 12 hours. If you have a seasick, you might want to consider other options of route.
