Is there anyone here who have the plan to visit Japan? Can’t decide on which hotel you should choose among so many beautiful and unique hotel in the Sakura Country? On this content, I would like to share some testimonies and recommendations of several hotels in Japan that I have ever tried with my family during vacation.

Several other hotels on this list are recommended based on the testimonies from my friends who felt satisfied with the hotel that we chose (husband and I), because sometimes we are asked for recommendation of what hotel to stay on in Japan.

So, which hotels deserve to be considered to complete your tour in Japan? Check out the recommendation below:

Note: Most illustration image on this are taken from other sources because of several reasons – one of those is because the quality of images I captured myself are still not good enough.

1. Looking For A Comfortable Accomodation for Family in Tokyo? Flexstay Inn Shinagawa Deserves to be Checked Out.

Flexstay Inn Shinagawa, via hotels
Flexstay Inn Shinagawa, via hotels

At that time the hotel name was Weekly Mansion Shinagawa. But later I got informed that in 2014 the hotel changed its name to Flexstay Inn Shinagawa, and the hotel image changed too, to be more modern. Altough generally most of the hotel facilities stayed the same.

There are few reasons why this hotel is quite attractive to tourists who visit the country with their family. First is because its very short distance to the station. You just need to spend less than 1-2 minutes to reach the nearest station, Kitashinagawa Station (or probably about 5 minutes if you walk casually slow).

Kitashinagawa Station is only one station away from Shinagawa Station which is one of several stations that shinkansen goes through. Therefore, the hotel itself is just 10 minutes away from Shinagawa Station. Pretty strategic location, isn’t it?

Second reason lies on the hotel atmosphere. Flexstay Inn Shinagawa’s location is not on the main street. but on a small street in residential and shops area. The atmosphere of surrounding area is rather  quiet so the guest can rest comfortably as they will not be bothered by loud noise of traffic from the highway.

The more interesting thing is that along the road of this hotel, there are plenty of small shops and cafe, so the atmosphere of this road feels to be lively and fun to explore from end to end (although in real life i have never reached the end of it as the road was longer than I imagined). Other plus point is that the hotel is just one building away from the minimarket. So if you need to buy something – mostly snacks for breakfast or dinner, all you need to do is stroll away to shop.

And of course the main reason we fell in love to Flexstay Inn Shinagawa lies on the small yet comfortable room that it feels like home. There are two types of room ; single and semi-double standard.

Each room is equipped with facilities like a private apartments, starting from television, kitchenette (equipped with electric stove, electric kettle, knife, sink, etc.), to bathroom filled with amenities like soap and shampoo – that sucessfully made me regret as I supplied myself with soap and shampoo.

Oh and at this hotel, you can borrow some equipments for free, such as vacuum cleaner, ironing facilities, sewing tools, kitchen utensils, room spray, and more. The point is, this hotel is ready to be your second home while you are in Tokyo.

2. But if You Are Looking for A Family-Friendly Accomodation in Kyoto, Hotel Kyoto Dai-Ni Tower is Sexy Enough to Try On.

Kyoto Dai-Ni Tower Hotel, via personal documentation/2015
Kyoto Dai-Ni Tower Hotel, via personal documentation/2015

Shortly, Kyoto Dai-Ni Tower is a part of Kyoto Tower Hotel chains. That means this hotel is still on the same management with Kyoto Tower – one of tourism objects in Kyoto that is must to visit.

In my opinion, the main attraction of this hotel lies on its location that is super duper very strategic. Too much? Maybe. But really, this hotel is highly strategic as it is only 2 minutes walk away from Kyoto Station.

Even so, this hotel is located right beside that Kyoto main station, that you can reach it only in 30 seconds to one minute if you are being in a hurry. So no wonder that the hotel rate tends to be quite high for budget travellers.

Here is the images of how the hotel surrounding looks:

Other interesting point lies on the hotel atmosphere. Not only pretty close to Kyoto Station (in which that means you can very easily reach many tourism objects in Kyoto and other towns), this hotel is also pretty close to the Family Mart.

So, if you need to buy anything, you can just walk beautifully for 1-2 minutes to buy the items you need on that konbini. Its location on the city central also allows you to easily reach many interesting tourism objects simply by walking on your feet, such as Kyoto Tower, Higashi-honganji shrine, and Nishi-honganji shrine.

For the hotel room, to be honest I say that this hotel is very cute. Not to mention that the bathroom is super efficient (read : cute). But the atmosphere is quite comfortable even for children. And the fun thing is, the seventh floor of the hotel has a vending machine.

You can buy any beverages, either it is cold or hot – there are even ice creams on that vending machine. Not bad for a place to hangout for a while if you suddenly feel hungry in the middle of the night (and being too lazy to the stroll to the nearby konbini).

As an additional information, other plus point from this hotel is the staff who are fluent in English. So you don’t need to worry about using body language – or even mind language – to communicate to the hotel staff if you don’t know how to speak Japanese.

And, because this hotel is still on the same management with Kyoto Tower, the hotel guests will receive special discount up to 50% to enter the Kyoto Tower. This hotel also provides free bike rental, altough we didn’t get the chance to use that facility.

4. Hotel MyStays Otemae, Recommended for Family who Choose Osaka as Their Travel Destination.

Hotel MyStays Otemae, via agoda
Hotel MyStays Otemae, via agoda

Our experience in staying at Weekly Mansion Shinagawa (now is Flexstay Inn Shinagawa) had really made us impressed with that hotel chain. Because, when we had the chance for a family vacation to Osaka, we intentionally looked for a hotel which is still on the same chain with FlexStay Inn or Hotel MyStays (still one group with Flexstay Inn too). From several branches of Hotel MyStays in Osaka, we turned out to be destined with Hotel MyStays Otemae.

Hotel MyStays Otemae, via hotels
Hotel MyStays Otemae, via hotels

Hotel MyStays Otemae is located on Chuo district. According to the information, this hotel location is just 4 minutes away of walking from Exit 4 at Tanimachi 4-chome Station. But in reality, the first time we went there, we needed 30 minutes to find the location.

It was because Exit 4 at Tanimachi 4-Chome Station is located on a crossroad so we were not sure which way to go. In the end we spent our time circling around the whole road there before we finally realize that from Exit 4 we just needed to walk straight forward (no need to cross the street) to find Hotel MyStays Otemae.

According to the location, Hotel MyStays Otemae is strategic enough. Nearest konbini (Family Mart) is approximately 100 meters away, so it is easy enough if you need to buy something. Other konbini (7 Eleven) is located nearby the station, so there is an alternative place for shopping. Around the station, there are also several eateries with reasonable prices.

And, another plus point is, this hotel is around 10 minutes of walking away from the most popular tourism spot in Osaka, The Osaka Castle. Unfortunately, at that moment we failed to visit Osaka Castle. For the hotel itself was just exactly like how we expected from Hotel MyStays chain.

The check-in proccess was quick as the staffs were fluent in English. The fun thing is, on the lobby there is a spot of accessories filled with hairband, cotton, and cotton bud that guest can take for free. Not far from the reception area, there is laundry machine and dryer operated with coins that guest hotel can use.

Hotel type on this hotel is quite variative, starting from Semi-double standard, Semi-double with big kitchen, Standard Twin, Deluxe Twin, Superior Twin, Private Twin, Standard Triple, Family Quad, and Family room with tatami (could ocuppy 5, 6, and 7 people).

Each room is equipped with a kitchen including the kitchen utensils (starting from knife, plates, electric stove, fridge, eating utensils, up to microwave) and bathroom filled with amenities. The room interior was designed to look similar like an apartment, so the guest may feel like finding a second home in Japan.

As an addition, there is a balcony outside our room that is equipped with …… So if you have wet clothes, you can let the wind to dry it on the balcony. The facilities is quite complete, isn’t it? So even the rates might be high, but in my personal opinion it is still economic enough if we travel with family.

And, as an addition information, Hotel MyStays Otemae allows kid below 6 years old to sleep in the same room with the parents, unlike Hotel MyStays in Kyoto that expect 6-years-old kid to open up a separated room.
