Krakatoa is a volcanic archipelago located on the Sunda Strait, a strait between Java Island and Sumatra Island. There used to be a huge mountain there called “Krakatau Mountain”, but it massively exploded on August 1883.

The event was very famous in around the world. The explosion sound even could be heard from Africa and Australia which were almost 5,000 kilometers away. This volcanic explosion even caused climate change in the whole Earth. It made the whole world dark for two days straight due to its volcanic dusts. The sun was also dim for about a year.

After explosion, the Mount Krakatoa disappeared, leaving up a much smaller volcanic mount called “Anak Krakatau”. It means “the Child of Krakatoa”. The archipelago was still volcanically active right now. The view is very exquisite and charming.

Many tourists, locals and foreigners, would love to come to this place to see this magnificent scenery. Do not forget to ensure that the archipelago is safe to visit by checking the security warning from the Management. If you are too afraid to come close, you can still enjoy the view from a resort nearby. The resort is called Kalianda Resort or Krakatoa Nirwana Resort.

There are many facilities in this national park. The most popular one is Pusat Konservasi Gajah (Elephant Conservation Center), where the elephants are trained to do many attractive things. There is also a show here where the elephants are demonstrating amazing stuffs they were trained before.

If you are an animal lover, you do not need to worry about the elephant because they were not cruelly trained like the common animal circuses. I mean, the national park is supposed to take a good care of them, right? So they must know best about how to treat them.

There is a Bird Surveillance Center on the right side of this park. There are many rare beautiful birds in Way Kambas, so it might be amazing to watch them all. Most kids love this facility. There is also Rhinoceros Conservation Center, Research Lab, and much more. This national park also has a camping area which is popular for wilderness explorers.

Besides surfing, the beach is also perfect for fishing. This place is very rich of fishes, such as tuna and the giant blue marine. Blue Marine is quite a legendary fish in Lampung. The length could reach up to 170 centimeters and the weight can reach up to 50 to 70 kilograms.

The scenerey of this beach is also amazing. Many photographers like to come here just to capture a nice panorama. Even though there are many interesting activities to do, there are still many people who visit this beach just to enjoy the panorama. They can sit down by the shoreline and stay still for a couple hours.

4. Kiluan Lake

The first thing I think about when hearing the word “Kiluan Lake” is dolphins. If you come to this lake in the morning, you can see many schools of dolphins swimming and dancing naturally. You can still see them at afternoon, but it will not be as amazing as morning, when the wave is still stable and calm.

On Kiluan Lake, you can do snorkeling. This can take you closer to the dolphins. If you are lucky enough, the dolphins will not swim away from you. Besides seeing those incredible dolphins, you can also see many starfish while snorkeling. They are various in colors.

If you do not like snorkeling, you can still go closer to the dolphins by using “Jukung”. Jukung is a traditional fisherman boat which is already equipped with engine. The shape is small, narrow, and long. Each Jukung could only occupy four people, including the driver. Renting out a Jukung will cost you about $20. The price is probably higher during school holiday seasons.
