Lombok Island is quite a famous tourism destination. Most tourists recognize the island due to its wonderful beaches and pristine islands. How to Get There

These two awesome waterfalls are located at foot of Mount Rinjani and is still a part of Mount Rinjani National Tourism Park. It is on the hamlet of Pemotoh, Aik Berik Village, North Batukliang district, the town of Central Lombok. To reach this place, first you need to be in Lombok Island. You can get a plane to Lombok International Airport that serves daily flight from Singapore, Johor Baru (Malaysia), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Jakarta, Surabaya, Denpasar, Makassar, Kupang, Yogyakarta, and several other cities in Indonesia.

The airport is already at the town of Central Lombok. This means you are only one step away to reach the waterfalls. The objects are just about 30 minutes away from the airport. To reach this place, you have several choices of accommodation. The easiest way is to rent a car with the driver. If you choose to drive by yourself without driver, you might need to ask local people for directions. You can also rent a motorcycle and ride it your own. You can also get the service from travel agents to reach this place.

The road to the waterfalls is actually good and comfortable. But as you approach the site, the road will get narrower, less crowded, and a little bit rougher. Even so, the scenery you will see at this area would be very pleasant with peaceful villages and wide green fields (mostly are coffee and chocolates). Therefore, you wouldn’t be much bothered by the rough road.

As both waterfalls are located in the middle of a forest, your vehicle wouldn’t be able to reach it. Parking lot has been provided for tourists. From there, you must walk to reach the waterfall for less than 30 minutes. You are free to choose which waterfall to visit first. If you are afraid of getting lost on your way to the waterfall, you can hire a local guide for $2.

Benang Stokel Waterfall

Most waterfalls drop down through a rocky cliff wall. But with Benang Stokel Waterfall, the situation is a little bit different. The cliff wall is all covered in thick bushes. It seems like the cliff wall is covered with giant green blanket. Dropping down through between the bushes makes the water to have a tender debit.

This way, it is perfectly safe and comfortable to stand underneath it and enjoy the water falls to your head. The water that falls down will then gathered in a shallow basin underneath the waterfall. Feel free to swim on this refreshing basin while enjoying the beautiful sceneries around the site.

Benang Stokel consists of two waterfalls that are about 6 meters apart. The left one is slightly bigger than the right one as it has more volume and stronger debit. Each waterfalls look like a pile of threads. That is why local people named this waterfall as “Benang Stokel” which means “Pile of Threads”. Both waterfalls have approximate height of about 30 meters. The water came from Segara Anakan Lake, a caldera of Mount Rinjani.

Benang Stokel Waterfall is the closest from parking lot. It is only 500 meters away and can be reached by foot for 20 minutes. The facilities are also a little bit better than Benang Kelambu Waterfall. There are several gazebos for tourists to sit back and relax, enjoying the pristine environment around it. Benang Stokel Waterfall is also an alternative route for hiking up the Mount Rinjani. It is shorter than the regular route through Senaru, but not many hikers are aware about this route.

Benang Kelambu Waterfall

While visiting Benang Stokel Waterfall, make sure to also visit its twin, Benang Kelambu Waterfall. It is only 500 meters away. To reach it, you need to do simple walking through the jungle for about 30 minutes or less. If you visit this waterfall first, the walk would also take about 30 minutes from the parking lot. A walkway track has been provided to make it more convenient to get through.

Benang Kelambu Waterfall has similar features with Benang Stokel Waterfall. The water source is Segara Anakan Lake. The cliff wall too, is all covered in thick bushes of Gambung Trees. But generally, this waterfall is bigger and wider than Benang Stokel.

While Benang Stokel only has two waterfalls on it, Benang Kelambu has six. The six waterfalls are arranged on two continuing levels. This formation makes it looks like a giant curtain. And that is where the name of Benang Kelambu came from, as it means “Threads of Curtain”.

Total height of this waterfall is approximately 40 meters. The upper level is about 30 meters. The water then falls down to a pile of rocks. From this pile of rocks, the water continues dropping down 10 meters below to a large basin of fresh water. The rocks slow down the water debit. Thus, the water will fall tenderly to your head if you stand right underneath it.

The environment of this waterfall is just as beautiful. It feels good to swim on the basin or just sit down on a side and enjoy the fresh air. The waterfall looks very majestic so you might want to take a picture of it.

Local people believe that the water of both Benang Stokel and Benang Kelambu Waterfall could heal many kinds of disease. They also believe that taking one bath or swim at the water basin of these waterfalls will make you stay young. Anyway, even if it is not true, both waterfalls are worth visiting, especially if you like adventure to find a secluded nature beauty.
